I can’t believe the semester is almost over! It seems to have flown by. I finally took my gsp and will start taking all of my core MC classes this summer and next semester which will be the start of my senior year. In one month I will be going to VEGAS with my best friend! This picture was taken with instagram which is something I talked about in one of my recent posts. Hope everyone has a good summer!

My friend from high school passed away over the weekend after struggling with Cystic Fibrosis all of his life. He was in and out of the hospital throughout school but I never thought his time would end so soon. he had been waiting for new lungs for the past year and the ventilator he was on was hurting him so he chose to stop fighting and go peacefully rather than in pain. Today I registered to become an organ donor in honor of Bryan’s life. I hope he is breathing easy up in heaven. Please take time to educate yourself on CF and see if there’s something you can do to help those it affects. Anything helps:)

The space shuttle Discovery logged 39 flights and spent a year orbiting the Earth. The shuttle ended its career with a tour around the nation’s capital and landed at its final destination near Dulle’s international airport yesterday. It will now be on permanent display at The Smithsonian’s Air & Space Museum.

This morning I heard that last night at the coachella festival, the late hip hop legend, Tupac Shakur, appeared via hologram, which was a surprise performance for the audience. Another big thing concerning 3D in the news right now is the Titanic movie. It’s amazing how the advancement of technology is allowing all of these cool things to happen. It makes me wonder if hologram concerts will be the next big thing to keep the music of past performers alive.

 

In my mass media and society class we learned a lot about North Korea and the way things are run there. I found this image of a pin of Kim Jong II. People have to wear this pin over their hearts to demonstrate their undying respect and gratitude to the father figure of their country. Marking the pen in any way is considered a serious political crime. They have been brainwashed since day one and have no clue what goes on in the outside world because of their limited access to social media sites and the news.

This video includes clips of Saul Bass’ title designs, also referred to as title sequences. Saul Bass was a title designer, graphic designer and film director. He worked for many great Hollywood filmmakers. He designed iconic corporate logos including AT&T’s “bell” logo and Continental Airline’s “jetstream” logo. The Man with the Golden Arm is my favorite title design of his. It was very controversial because the movie’s subject was about a jazz musician’s struggle to overcome his heroin addiction, which was a very taboo subject in the ’50s. He displayed an arm as the central image because it is a strong image relating to drug addiction- especially herion addiction. The title’s were of an animated white on black paper cut-out arm.

Part of our class lecture today was about color contrast and how it’s used in photography and film. I found this picture online and besides the fact that it’s beautiful, it exemplifies a color contrast. The contrast appears in the white cliffs against the dark purple colored water. It’s also seen in the sky with the fading sun and its reflection on the water. I like how your eye is drawn to the sun’s reflection on the water because of the brightness in color. This photo was taken by a UK photographer named Peter Spencer. Great work!

My friends just completed the Tough Mudder (Dallas) race over the weekend. It consisted of 12 miles and 15 obstacles and everything is done in the mud. When I first heard about it I thought there was no way I could do it but after seeing pictures and hearing about it I want to start training and set that as a goal for myself. I think the sense of accomplishment you would feel afterwards would definitely be worth the pain of training.

This image is of a hoodie laying on the floor in memory of Trayvon martin, a young african american boy who was shot by a neighborhood watch captain. Trayvon was innocent and found with a can of soda and skittles in his hand. The man who shot him says it was in self defense but there is no proof that trayvon did anythig to him. This is a case of misidentification and racism. The hoodie that he was wearing didn’t make him a “thug”. In memory of Trayvon Martin. I love this editorial cartoon of Rush Limbaugh dressed like a prostitute. I watched the controversial radio show where he calls Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” many times and I’m disgusted that this guy has any right to make political commentaries, but I guess this goes back to the First Amendment topic that we should all have a right to speak freely. No matter how idiotic someones views are.. At least one good thing has come out of this; many of his advertisers were quick to run far, far away from his radio show.
